    The project has two main objectives:

    • to develop a new personality scale for adolescents (10-14 years old) that can also evaluate behaviors and aspects that have been little investigated so far (based on the HEXACO model; where the 6 factors represented are: H= Honesty-Humility; E= Emotionality; “X= eXtraversion; A= Agreeableness; C= Conscientiousness; O= Openness to experience);
    • to use this new tool to identify useful models to understand the role of biological and environmental factors in personality development.

    In the first phase, the new personality questionnaire will be developed. To do this we will have to carry out a first administration that will involve about 1000 adolescents from lower secondary schools in the Campania region. At the end of this first phase, we will be able to select the "best questions" that will form the final questionnaire. In the second phase, we will study the effect of the environment on personality development. For this purpose, some genetic aspects, the personality traits measured with the new questionnaire, together with other measures of environmental factors, will be evaluated.

    The wider objective of the project is to identify the factors that are most involved in personality determination. This would allow us to better understand the relationship between personality and environment. It is well known that personality traits determine our behaviour, but the direct relationship between personality traits-behaviours and how much these traits can be "modified" or directed not to lead to undesirable behaviour is still unknown. 

    At the end of this work, we would also like to be able to identify guidelines and protocols, which can be useful both for school operators and families.

    The results of this project will be communicated at various levels: we will organize seminars for students, study days at our Department, international workshops and publications in scientific journals.

    In addition, we will organize meetings at the schools that took part in the project to illustrate the results and discuss the possible practical/educational implications.
